Have You Experienced Inequality in Healthcare?
If you have experienced inequity in healthcare, the Vermont Department of Health’s Morrisville office would like to hear from you. They are working to address health disparities among Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and underserved or marginalized populations at higher risk for COVID-19, including racial and ethnic minority groups and people living in rural-underserved communities.

Youth Resources Campaign
Several of the schools in our region have recently or are currently participating in Youth Resources Week: a week dedicated to helping students find help, support, and opportunities for themselves and their friends by exploring Healthy Lamoille Valley’s new Youth Resources web page.

June Coalition Meeting: Equity and Substance Prevention
This June, begin a conversation about equity with us. We will take a look into how substance industry tactics increase inequality, and how risk factors, such as stigma, discrimination, and life stressors, lead to disproportionate use. We invite community partners to come share about their equity work in the community.

Member Spotlight: Kate Lewton
Kate Lewton is a youth member of Healthy Lamoille Valley and a soon-to-graduate Stowe High School Senior. During the past school year she has worked as an HLV coalition intern and served as the Lamoille Area Youth Coalition Ambassador while regularly participating in HLV steering team and coalition meetings. In recognition for her dedicated work, Kate was awarded a Youth Award at Prevention Day 2022 earlier this year.

Menthol is a Health Equity Issue
Substance misuse is often an equity and social justice issue. Tobacco* in particular, including menthol and other flavors, is one of the biggest. Menthol is a health equity issue with a century-long history in the US of the tobacco industry targeting the African American community.

Lamoille Valley Proms are scheduled for May 14th, May 21st, and June 4th. Healthy Lamoille Valley’s Parent/Caregiver Workgroup compiled tips for a fun and safe evening filled with positive memories, including how to help your teen have a well-planned evening, dealing with uncomfortable situations, and tips to share with teens.
