Hello Partners and Coalition Members!
I hope this communication finds you enjoying the summer days and soaking in the best of the weather North Central Vermont has to offer.
I’m excited to begin working and connecting with you all in a slightly new capacity. As we reluctantly say farewell to Jessica Bickford, as our long-term Healthy Lamoille Valley Coordinator, I have the honor of welcoming HLV staff and programming into the Youth & Young Adult Programs at Lamoille Family Center. Although my initial management responsibilities are, at this point, at an interim level, we are working to decide over time if we will keep the current staffing configuration or consider another. As this process unfolds over time, we will work hard to ensure that we are maintaining our momentum.
For those of you who are not already familiar with me or my work, I offer this short bit of background on what I’ve been involved with. I started at LFC in 2018 as the Youth & Young Adults Programs Manager. I have 30 plus years’ experience in youth work, public health, child safety and welfare. I hold a Masters of Social Work from UVM with a focus in youth and families. I have had the opportunity to oversee and manage several community coalitions over the years and have had a relatively long connection to various prevention partnerships is several areas. From the Barre District, Dept of Health Office, to Morrisville VDH and Newport DCF FS’s. It’s been a privilege to watch the progression of development of the prevention partnerships from 2004 until now. The Healthy Lamoille Valley Coalition being one of the strongest growing and effective coalitions in the State of Vermont. I have been a partner with HLV serving on it’s steering committee and coalition for many years.
My primary work at LFC and within the Lamoille Valley has has been that of managing services to at risk youth and young adults. I’ve facilitated and/or participated in our area Youth & Young Adult (YaYa) Area Team, LINT, LIT, Suicide Prevention Team, LAH2S – ROC (Covid response team), LeARN (long-term flood recovery team),and several area child protection teams, etc.
I live in Eden and serve as the town School Board Rep in the LNSU district, and Emergency Management Director. I’m married and have one college-aged daughter whom graduated LUHS in 2025.
This opportunity will afford another level of programmatic and practical integration of HLV at LFC. We aim to bolster our direct service delivery with prevention education, consultation and support not only to the community but within our programs. We are excited to hear your input and will maintain the open dialogue; we hope to increase youth and young adult voice in various ways.
Please feel free to reach out at any time, please attend our upcoming monthly coalition meetings and let’s see how we can collectively support the level of engagement in prevention activities, communication and ways to keep our community populations safe, aware and healthy regarding the ever-present substances while developing protective factors for all.
