We’re thrilled to locally launch TimeWise, 2nd Edition, and invite you to be part of shaping what comes next. TimeWise, 2nd Edition is a flexible, youth-centered curriculum and resource that focuses on time-use, choice, leisure, boredom, variety and balance, wellbeing, risk-taking and belonging. The second edition has been updated and digitized for easy access and use across our local schools and communities and expanded to serve youth from kindergarten through high school.

We invite educators, youth leaders, and community partners from across the Lamoille Valley to try it out and share your feedback. Join us for our monthly hybrid coalition meeting on March 17th for a soft launch of TimeWise, 2nd Edition and a conversation about how it can support youth in a school, program, camp, counseling, or community setting.

If possible, please have a laptop or other device for hands-on exploration of the new TimeWise, 2nd Edition website.

Educators and Community Partners- please consider sending one or more attendees from your school or organization. Educators and others who attend the Coalition meeting and will consider implementing TimeWise, 2nd Edition will receive a $10 gift card to a local business.

How you can participate beyond the coalition meeting:

  • explore TimeWise 2nd Edition on your own time, try TimeWise 2nd Edition with the youth you work with and share feedback to help guide its next phase
  • invite us to come to your school or program to meet directly with staff and/or youth, we can provide setup and gift cards for participants
  • help shape a TimeWise Youth/Educator Cohort or Committee within your setting to ensure youth voice is part of the process

Funding:

Visa gift cards are available to Lamoille Valley partners for implementation of TimeWise activities on a first come, first serve basis until June 30, 2026. Programs are encouraged to include youth in deciding how funds are used, as long as choices connect to TimeWise themes of time use/leisure, choice, wellbeing, and belonging. About TimeWise 2nd Edition

TimeWise 2nd Edition is a project of Healthy Lamoille Valley, co-developed by Linda L. Caldwell, PhD and Alison J. Link, PhD. It is an updated version of TimeWise: Taking Charge of Leisure Time (Caldwell, 2005). Over the past five years, with support from the Roessner Family Foundation, we’ve updated and expanded the program to reflect today’s realities and technology, incorporating new ways youth spend their time, and recognizing changing community needs.

The curriculum is free to use within the Lamoille Valley region. A nominal donation is encouraged if you are outside of the Lamoille Valley through Healthy Lamoille Valley’s donation link or invoice by request. Please contact Alison Link at alison@healthylamoillevalley.org for more information or if you are interested in in-person training.

TimeWise:

  • helps young people reflect on how they spend their time, make intentional choices, and engage in meaningful activities that support their wellbeing
  • addresses the reality that many young people are unsure how to use their free time constructively or with intention, often defaulting to passive or unhealthy behaviors such as excessive screen time, substance use, or risky activities
  • is designed to be adaptable and fit into settings with different types of content such as advisory time, recess, afterschool and summer programs, therapeutic settings, community programs, and other third spaces.

With Gratitude
Many thanks to The Roessner Family Foundation for supporting the updating of TimeWise since 2020. We are also deeply appreciative of the TimeWise Educator Cohort, educators across the Lamoille Valley who shared feedback, our community partners, and Northeast Kingdom Online for their thoughtful web and design work.
