clockIt’s like changing your clocks… or the batteries in your smoke alarms… National Prescription Drug Take Back is a bi-annual event that reminds us to make our homes safer and help keep our communities drug free.  When we go into surgery or are managing pain we often get a prescription for more than we actually use.  This leaves unwanted medicines hanging out in our homes to be forgotten.  National Prescription Drug Take Back is just the event we need to remind us to check our secure medicine storage locations to see if we might have some lingering medicines that would best be removed from our homes.  This Fall’s event is on Saturday, October 22nd from 10:00-2:00.

By removing unwanted medicines you:

  • Reduce the risk of taking an incorrect dose – That medicine was prescribed for a specific condition based on a variety of factors that may easily change.  It may not be the next fit for your current condition. Always work with your doctor to determine how to treat each condition and to ensure that you do not have drug interactions.
  • Reduce the risk of taking expired medications.  Medicines have a shelf life and start to lose their effectiveness over time.
  • Reduce the likelihood that a child accidentally discovers and ingests medicines.
  • Removes temptations for those that may be wishing to experiment or are addicted to opioids.
  • Generally have less clutter.
  • You take a step to make a Healthy Lamoille Valley!

The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department has teamed up with other local law enforcement agencies to provide these sites for the October 22nd National Prescription Take Back Day.  See you there 10:00-2:00!
