On November 20th, join us in making the Great American Smokeout, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, a hands-on event across the Lamoille Valley! Together, we can reduce tobacco, vape, and nicotine use while protecting our communities and environment.

Organize a Cigarette Butt Cleanup:
Cigarette butts are the world’s #1 littered item, full of toxic chemicals and plastic filters that harm wildlife and pollute our environment. Whether it’s at your school, workplace, town center, or local park, you can make a difference.

  • Individuals & Groups Welcome: Work solo or with a team — every effort counts!
  • We Provide Supplies: Gloves, bags, and litter grabbers supplied for safe cleanup.
  • Count & Report: Track the number of butts collected and submit it through our Environmental Impact of Substance Use Survey
  • Flexible Timing: Choose a two-hour window that works for you — weekday, weekend, or afternoon
  • Support & Promotion: We can help publicize your cleanup or join you onsite

Enhance Your Policies & Support Tobacco-Free Spaces:
Participating in the Smokeout also helps reduce chronic disease and the effects of second- and third-hand smoke. Many local municipalities have adopted smoke- and vape-free public spaces. Healthy Lamoille Valley can help your town, organization, or business enhance policies, provide signage, and connect you with resources like 3-4-50 to reduce chronic disease in Vermont.

Get Started:
If you want to plan a cleanup or other Smokeout activity, contact Alison Link, Policy and Community Outreach Coordinator, at alison@healthylamoillevalley.org. The American Cancer Society also has resources to support your event, and local quit-help services are available for those ready to take the next step toward a healthier life.

Every cleanup, policy change, and supportive action makes a difference!
